A Tranquil Walk in Srimangal's Tea Gardens(Bangladesh)

M.Aminur Rahman.

In the northeastern corner of Bangladesh lies a hidden gem, a place where time seems to slow down and the green landscape embraces you like an old friend. Welcome to Srimangal, the tea capital of Bangladesh. Little did I know when I set off to this laid-back town that I was about to immerse myself in a sensory adventure of tea plantations, vibrant culture and untouched natural beauty.

The journey to Srimangal begins with a scenic drive through winding roads surrounded by emerald-green fields and tropical forests. As the air became crisp, and the aroma of tea leaves wafted through the car windows, I knew I was approaching the heart of Bangladesh's tea country.

My first stop was Lauachara National Park, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The forest is home to a variety of species, including the elusive hulk gibbon and the endangered Asian elephant. Walking through green paths with birds chirping and leaves rustling, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection with nature.

Leaving the tranquility of the forest behind, I entered the vast tea plantations that define the landscape of Srimangal. The estates, with their beautifully manicured rows of tea bushes, create a charming mosaic of greenery that stretches as far as the eye can see. The sweet scent of tea leaves fills the air, and the rhythmic picking of leaves by skilled workers adds a melodious undertone to the surroundings.

One of the highlights of my visit was a guided tour of a tea factory. Here, I witnessed the delicate process of transforming fresh tea leaves into the aromatic liquor that graces cups around the world. Factory workers demonstrate the artistry behind each cup of tea with their skilled hands and centuries-old techniques.

To truly experience the local culture, I visited the Khasia tribal village on the edge of the tea plantations. The Khasia people welcomed me into their world with their colorful clothes and warm smiles. I participated in traditional dances and tasted their unique cuisine, featuring locally grown spices and herbs that add a burst of flavor to every bite.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Lauachhara Eco Cottage, a charming retreat nestled in the heart of the tea estates. The cozy cottages offered a perfect blend of comfort and rustic charm, and from my balcony, I watched the sun sink below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the rolling hills of tea.

My journey to Srimangal has left an indelible mark on my soul. It wasn't just a destination; It was a symphony of nature, culture and the simple joys of life. Saying goodbye to the tea-scented air and the warm smiles of the locals, I took with me the essence of Srimangal, where time stands still and the spirit of Bangladesh's tea tradition resides in every sip.

UN human rights boss urges test over Israel's Gaza bombardment

M.AMINUR RAHMAN.

The UN's general freedoms boss on Friday encouraged an inquiry into Israel's use of "high-impact ballistic weapons" in Gaza, which he said was causing wanton destruction in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Volker Turk, the UN's top chief for fundamental freedoms, said Israel should stop using such weapons in the enclave, home to 2.3 million Palestinians, a large part of whom has recently been uprooted by some fighting. The Turk did not say anything specific about the weapon he was referring to. Asked for comment, the Israeli military said it was checking and would respond later. Israel's air, sea, and ground barrage of Gaza, now joined by a ground assault somewhere inside the area, hopes to eliminate Hamas, the aggressor group that controls Gaza. Hamas killed 1,400 Israelis in cross-line attacks on October 7, according to Israeli counts, and the United Nations said the attacks amounted to atrocities. Israel's siege of Gaza has killed 10,000 Palestinians in the Palestinian territories, according to health experts.

"The widespread Israeli attack on Gaza, recalling the use of high-impact destabilizing weapons for the densely populated area ... clearly has an overwhelming auxiliary and general liberties effect," Turk advised a news conference during a visit to Amman, the Jordanian capital."The attacks should be investigated... We have serious concerns that these are a series of unbalanced attacks in violation of supporting regulations worldwide."Israel blames Hamas for the regular movement of civilians into Gaza, saying the gathering involves people as human security and hiding weapons and hardware around clinics, which have been bombed.

"Any use of objects by regular people and non-military personnel to protect Palestinian armed gatherings from attack is against the laws of war," Turk said. "However, the pledge to guarantee the protection of regular citizens led by Palestinian armed groups does not clear Israel."Turk likewise said Israel should go to greater lengths to protect Palestinians in the embattled West Bank, where brutality between Palestinians and Israeli officers and vanguards is on the rise. Turk said 176 Palestinians, including 43 youths and a woman, have been killed in episodes involving Israeli security forces since early October. Somewhere around eight Palestinians were killed by Israeli pioneers.

Israel has vowed to wipe out Hamas and has said it is leading a counter-terrorism operation against insurgents gathering in the West Bank and other Palestinian armed groups. Throughout recent months, Israeli troops have killed scores of Palestinians — not including hard-line aggressors, stone-throwing youths, and regular citizens — and captured large numbers across the West Bank. At the same time, many Israelis were killed in Palestinian attacks.

M.AMINUR RAHMAN.

The Sundarbans, located in the southwestern part of Bangladesh, is a mesmerizing natural wonder and the largest mangrove forest in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its unique ecosystem, where freshwater from the rivers meets the saline waters of the Bay of Bengal. The Sundarbans is a haven for biodiversity, home to the elusive Bengal tiger, spotted deer, crocodiles, and a myriad of bird species.

Travelers can explore the dense forest on traditional wooden boats, allowing them to witness the rich flora and fauna up close. The mysterious and tranquil ambiance of the Sundarbans creates a magical atmosphere, making it a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Apart from wildlife spotting, the Sundarbans also provide opportunities for cultural interactions with the local communities residing on the fringes of the forest. Visitors can experience the unique lifestyle of the Sundarbans' inhabitants, who depend on the mangrove ecosystem for their livelihoods.

In addition to its natural beauty, the Sundarbans serves as a vital ecosystem service by acting as a natural barrier against cyclones and tidal surges, playing a crucial role in the ecological balance of the region. Know the price before eating

There are many hotels near JT Ghat. You can buy live fish and eat barbecue there. When buying fish, buy cheaply.

If you are staying at a West Beach resort, you will have to eat at the resort hotel. Otherwise you have to come to the jetty every time for food. Resort hotel food is good so no need to worry. And the price is not comparatively high.

Sights of the Island:

The whole of Saint Martin is worth a visit. This island is a treasure of infinite life. However, I am making a list of what to see specifically. can see

Coconut Jinjira on the north side of the island (walk along the beach on the left side of the jetty)

West Side Coral Island:

Jetty Ghat (Be amazed by the color of the seawater in the morning. And listen to the roar of the sea while sitting on the steps of the jetty at night)

Galachipa (the narrowest part of the island)

Cherandeep (Southernmost landmass of Bangladesh)

Sunset at West Beach, Sunrise at Jetty

A clear night sky with millions of stars or a full moon

Afternoon fishing with fishermen on the beach left side of the jetty

A walk from the market along the paved road to the vacation hotel is the accommodation of the locals, the way of life

Evening/Night Market:

All things to do in Saint Martin:

cycling

Walking/speedboat/fishing trawler/lifeboat to Cheradawip

Eating bar-b-que of different types of fish

Getting up early in the morning to buy fish from fishermen

Afternoon fishing with fishermen (lucky enough to catch free fish).

campfire:

Scuba driving

Cheradawip

Another name of Chheradeep is Chheradia or Siradia.

Cheradawip is located in the southernmost part of Bangladesh. This island is located about eight kilometers south of Saint Martin. After that there is no more territory of Bangladesh.

Chheradawip consists of several islands with an area of 100 to 500 square meters. The archipelago is named after the fact that it detaches or separates from the mainland of St. Martin during low tide.

On foot from St. Martin's Island is Cheradawip || St. Martin to Cheradwip

How to get to Chheradeep:

walk/cycle at low tide.

In package from JT Ghat. 30 minutes to go, 30 minutes to arrive and 1 hour round trip.

Reserves fishing trawlers.

Cheradawip can be reached with auto reserve.

Cheradawip on foot

It takes an hour and a half to two hours to walk if you go along West Beach. This is what I would suggest. It's a bit difficult to get around but it won't be in vain.

If you want to go comfortably and quickly, go through East Beach.

The tides change with time. So on the day you go, ask the local people or the resort manager.

Trawler will not be available on arrival. All take reserve trawlers. If you can request someone, then maybe you can get it.

To walk, pass through the West Beach and come through the East Beach for better views.

Travel expenses to Saint Martin:

How much travel costs will depend on how you go, what you eat, where you stay, what you do.

Also, the cost depends on the time of year you are going. For example, December to January is the peak season. During this time the cost will be relatively high. Moreover, the costs are higher during consecutive long holidays.

Transportation Cost (via Cox's Bazar)

Bus fare: Non AC bus fare 2400 taka. 2800-4400 taka in AC bus.

Ship Fare: Economy Class Tk 2400, Business Class Tk 3000.

Cheran Island: 200-300 Tk

Local travel: 150-200 taka

Other Expenses: 200 Tk

Hotel expenses:

2000-25000 rupees depending on the quality of the hotel. Standard hotel fare around the market or inland away from the beach is Tk 1500-2500.

Food Cost:

Departure day and return day break: Tk 400-600 (depends on what to eat)

1st day: Breakfast 100-150 Tk. Lunch 200-300 Tk. Night bar-b-que 250-400 taka.

2nd day: Breakfast 100-150 Tk. Lunch 200-300 Tk.

All in all, staying in a decent hotel, going to and fro by non-AC bus and going to the economy seat on the ship will cost 7500 rupees if you stay for 1 night in Saint Martin.

warning:

Teknaf ships depart between 9.30-10 am. So if you miss the ship, you will not get another ship that day.

If you miss the ship in Teknaf, you can go to the trawler. If you ask the people at the wharf, they will show you where the trawler wharf is.

If you miss a ship in St. Martin, you will get nothing for the ship or trawler that day. In that case you have to go to Teknaf by speedboat or stay on the island.

Things to know before visiting Saint Martin

Know about its location while booking a hotel or resort. Like in West Beach or East Beach. How far is the resort from the beach? There are some resorts where the water comes up to the resort gate during high tide. Bhishan likes during high tide.

Get off at St. Martin Jetty and walk to the market instead of taking a rickshaw/auto. Then the rent will be much less.

Be sure to be careful of corals when entering the water. Sharp corals can easily cut the leg. It is best not to go too far into the water.

Know the price before eating in any restaurant. Bargain in advance while eating fish barbeque from a beachside shop.

Saint Martin is open 24 hours a day. But beware of the pack of dogs at night. You may be afraid if you are alone or in doubt. If you are a couple, it is better not to go somewhere too secluded. Although the people of the island are good, there are people with different mindsets due to tourists from all over the country.

If you go on foot or by bicycle, you will know from the local/resort when the low tide is.

If you reserve an afternoon trawler from West Beach, you can watch the sunset on arrival.

Try to leave by 2 o'clock in the target trawler for Cheradawip, then you will be able to spend more time.

Pay attention to the time when the package is on the trawler.

It is best to visit Chheradeep if you can go after sunrise in the morning. You can come around earlier before the sun rises. There are less people then.

Special Request:

Do not bring coral. Even if 1 person brings 1 coral, 100,000 people will bring 100,000 corals. Hundreds of thousands of people go to Saint Martin in the season!

Do not litter anywhere. The island is ours. Don't spoil its natural beauty by littering.

abcd

Refrain from misbehaving with locals.

Some of my experiences with Saint Martin Island

The island has been visited many times in the long 12 years 2010-2022.

Sometimes I stayed 1 night, sometimes 2 nights. But still not satisfied.

This cinnamon island is a treasure of infinite life.

The area of the island is 10-15 square kilometers. If you want to walk around the whole island, you have to walk about 11/12 kilometers. The true beauty of Saint Martin cannot be seen without walking around the entire island.

On the north side of the island are coconut chains. The narrowest point in the middle of the island is Galachip where you can hear the roar of the sea on both the east and west sides. and Chheradia or Chheradeep in the south.

If you get off the jetty and walk along the beach on the left hand side, you will see a form of sea. If you walk around during the low tide, you can go to Cheradawip. The sea is relatively calm on the eastern side.

On the beach right side of the jetty basically everyone went to bathe. Those who stay in the resorts around the market also roam around this beach. If you go west along this beach, you will get the truth of why the island is called 'Coconut Jinjira'.

To verify the authenticity of the name Coral Island, you have to go to West Beach. As you walk along the west beach towards Cheradawip during low tide, you will see more corals. Big, small, weird is not here.

abcd

Galachipa is the narrowest part of the island. You are bound to be surprised whether you go east or west along the beach in Galachipa. Discover why by traveling for yourself!

If you walk or cycle the island, you will see the mangrove forest just before the part that is submerged at high tide. What did you see on the island and what did you see when you came here! Don't believe your eyes.

Chheradeep part is another surprise. The corals here seem more alive to me. A natural aquarium can be seen on the western side of Chheradeep. There is a strange tree in Keora forest. You will definitely find it. Even during the day there is a sense of gaan gaan cham cham.

The most interesting part of Chheradawip is to sit at the end and watch the waves of the sea and listen to the roar of the waves. Which is completely different from the main island. At least it seems so to me. Cheradawip is also a paradise for those who like to take pictures.

Normally, around 100 patients from Gaza get care every day for complex well-being needs like therapy for uncommon tumors and open heart medical procedures, at emergency clinics like Azzam's, as well as in the involved West Bank, Israel, and different nations, as per the World Wellbeing Association (WHO).

That stopped after Oct. 7, when shooters from the Islamist bunch Hamas got through the Gaza line wall, killing almost 1,400 individuals inside Israel and taking approximately 240 prisoners. Israel forced a total attack on Gaza, barraging the seaside territory and sending off a ground hostile. In excess of 10,000 Palestinians, including more than 4,000 youngsters, have been killed, as per wellbeing authorities in Hamas-run Gaza.

Azzam and her partners have been attempting to arrive at their patients from that point forward, including actually looking at Facebook to see whether they are as yet alive." We saw a post reporting that one of our kid patients had been killed in the strikes. He had been at the office just seven days prior. He was six years of age," she told Reuters in a meeting. "I can't fail to remember his picture."The WHO is pushing for the most defenseless among the persistently sick to be permitted out for therapy. Different nations have proposed to take in patients, including Egypt, Turkey, and the Assembled Bedouin Emirates.

Before the conflict, around 20,000 patients each year looked for licenses from Israel to leave the Gaza Strip for medical care, a significant number of them requiring rehash trips across the line. Close to a third are kids. Israel endorsed around 63% of these clinical leave applications in 2022, as per the WHO. Gaza's own medical services offices have been extended under a 16-year Israeli-drove bar and rehashed rounds of battling."In past conflicts, the intersection would close for a little while, however, at that point the patients had the option to return. This is whenever there first is a particularly extensive restriction on development and Gaza patients can't make it out," said Osama Qadoumi, the boss at Makassed Medical Clinic."The more we pause, the more terrible a few patients will get. Many individuals will pass on simply in light of the fact that they have no admittance to treatment."

Ongoing Circumstances

The worry isn't just about the most perplexing cases. There are 350,000 patients with ongoing circumstances in Gaza, including malignant growth and diabetes, as well as 50,000 pregnant ladies, as per information from Joined Countries associations.

Beforehand, the greater part could get clinical consideration in Gaza, however, presently the U.N. says the region's delicate well-being framework is near breakdown, battered via airstrikes, a flood in the quantity of injured patients, and quickly lessening supplies of drugs and fuel. A stream of help has been permitted in, while around 80 patients were permitted out.

"We generally discuss injury and as it should be," said Dr Richard Peeperkorn, WHO delegate for Gaza and the West Bank, in a question and answer session last month. "Be that as it may, we need to contemplate the 350,000 patients."

A few requirements are especially intense. Around 1,000 patients in Gaza need kidney dialysis to remain alive, however, 80% of the machines are in neighborhood emergency clinics under departure arrangements, the WHO said. Gaza's just disease clinic is done working. Israel's military has advised regular citizens to empty northern Gaza, where a portion of the medical clinics are situated, as it seeks a mission to destroy Hamas. The military says Hamas conceals its war rooms under emergency clinics. Hamas denies this.

While the battle seethes, about 400 patients and their colleagues who left Gaza for treatment before the conflict have been abandoned in east Jerusalem and the West Bank, the WHO said. Many battle to contact their family members, with meager cell administration and power in Gaza."I haven't had the option to let them know how the medical procedure went," said Um Taha al-Farrah, who brought her 6-year-old granddaughter Hala to Makassed Clinic on Oct. 5 for her third spinal medical procedure at the unit. Hala's mom was denied a grant to go with her to the clinic.

At the point when Hala's dad rings, they figure out how to represent a little while before the line exits."They ask 'How is Hala?' I 'Say thanks to God', and that is all there is to it," said Um Taha. Hala misses her folks and her home. She holds up a drawing of a frozen yogurt, a bunny, and a young lady. "I love mother and father," peruses a discourse bubble by the figure's mouth."I don't have the foggiest idea who is left of my loved ones. I'm certain they are not letting me know everything," said Um Taha.
